Children starting school in September 2027

How to apply for your child to start school for the first time:

A child can start school in September after they turn 4. 

Please click on this link to apply to Somerset Council.  The online form for starting school applications opens on 28 September 2026.

If you applied online by 15 January 2027, you will receive an email with the outcome of your application on 16 April 2027. If you applied using a paper application form your outcome will be sent out by second class post on 16 April 2027.

For applications received by 3 May 2027, Somerset Council will send outcomes on 7 June 2027. These will be sent by second class post.

Applications received after 3 May 2027 will be processed by somerset Council in strict date order of receipt and outcomes sent out after 7 June 2027. These will be sent by second class post.

From 16 April 2027 you can also view the outcome of your application by logging into the Citizen Portal.
