Year 4 Owl Visit

Year 4 have had a very special visit from North Somerset Birds of Prey who brought in four owls to share with us.

We got to meet Dotty, the small owl who is one of the smallest owls in the country, as well as Hercules the European Eagle Owl.

We also met Inca the Barn Owl and Cerberus the Tawny Owl. We were amazed to learn that Barn Owls do not have waterproof feathers and that Tawny Owls are the only owls that make the iconic ‘Twit-twoo’ sound.

We learnt so much about owls and will be using what we have learned as a starting point to research and write our own non-chronological reports. We also experienced excellent presentation skills first hand and used these to help us to present our own owl facts to the class, thinking carefully about our class rules for Oracy (speaking and listening).

Year 4 Sports Day : June 2024

Year 4 Health and Sports Week

What a fantastic Health and Sport’s Week we have had in Year 4!

On Monday we had a visit from athlete Kirsty Way, a medal winning Trampolinist and member of Team GB, who led us in fitness circuits. We also took time to learn about ways to take care of our physical health and mental well-being. We then had a rugby workshop. We also learned about our Olympic focus country- Mexico and made flags and maracas.

On Tuesday we learned about road safety, with a focus on our developing independence around the local area and had an afternoon orienteering around the school.

On Wednesday we learned about food and nutrition, thinking about what makes a healthy diet and the types of nutrition an athlete might need.

On Thursday we had a day at Bridgwater and Taunton College, taking part in a range of sporting and team-building activities, including Island Rescue, Archery, Spinning, Football Golf and Relay Races. “The best day of my life!” according to Theo.

On Friday, we learned about water safety with the RNLI, sun safety and then had a relaxing yoga session. More than one person fell asleep during our shavasana meditation at the end!

It has been such a great week, filled with activities to support our physical and mental health. We have been so lucky with the weather and enjoyed being outside as much as possible and we are looking forward to Sports’ Day on Monday.

There are A LOT of photos in our gallery. Please take time to look through them all, it has been a very busy week!

Year 4 Science Oracy Presentations : June 2024

Year 4 have been learning about the digestive system.

For our Summer 2 Oracy challenge, we prepared and presented our learning in front of our year group. We focused on volume, tone, pace and audience.  The presentations were all of a very high standard and we are becoming confident public speakers.

Year 4 Rainforest Art

Year 4 have been learning about Tropical Rainforests!

Our focus artist this term has been Jeannie Baker, an artist and conservationist who uses multimedia collage to produce beautiful natural scenes.

Inspired by our Rainforest learning and Jeannie Baker, we have created collaborative collages using only recycled and repurposed materials.

Tudor Portraits : May 2024

Oyez, oyez, oyez!

We present to you, some Tudor portraits.

Barn Owls worked hard to create their Tudor portrait. They made the frames by sawing, hot gluing and stapling wood together. They then created beautiful art work to go inside; focusing on Henry VIII and his wives.

Year 4 Forest School Day : March 2024

What a fantastic day Year 4 have had today in the Forest School.

We have been busy weaving using natural materials, structure building, whittling, creating with clay, minibeast hunting and creating bug hotels.

We were very fortunate with the weather and the warmth brought out ladybirds, butterflies, bees and more. We even had the excitement of chicks hatching somewhere above our heads while we were there, as a small blue egg shell appeared in the middle of our whittling area while we worked.

Rocktopus - March 2024

A very exciting day across the whole school. Year 4 and 5 got together to create a song about the 6 times tables. Their rhyming skills were very impressive! You children have been sent home with a QR code which you can scan to watch them in action!

Year 4 Cad Characters Visit

Year 4 have had a visit from a courtier who time-travelled from Tudor times! He told us all about life in the court of King Henry VIII, including what happened to his wives.

It was a great interactive way to bring our history learning to life.

Year 4 Storyteller Visit

As part of our Oracy Storytelling focus, Year 4 had a visit from Sharon Jacksties, a professional storyteller. She shared the story of Hyena and Hare and the Baobab Tree, a traditional African tale. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and magpied a lot of ideas for our own storytelling, including pace, tone, volume and musical instruments to add to our storytelling. The children were asked to visualise one scene from the story and were very keen to put these onto paper. Some of their fabulous ideas can be found in the gallery attached.

Cricket Trip

On Wednesday 13th September, Year 4 had the opportunity to attend The Somerset Cricket Foundation Schools' Day at The County Cricket Ground in Taunton.
We watched an exciting game between Western Storm and Central Sparks, met the players and took part in some cricket skills activities.
Some of our girls were even lucky enough to lead the players onto the ground as the guard of honour!
The weather was lovely, and we all agreed that it was a fantastic day!
